Current Air — Summer 22’

A tropical dream oasis dressed in beautiful colors.

01 — Hightlights

I focused on harmonizing different elements to capture the essence of a tropical dream oasis as the Mise-en-Scène.

Background

I let my background in Film bleed into this project. I had the concept of Mise-en-Scene in my mind and knew that I wanted to approach this project in a cinematic way. I wanted each puzzle piece to compliment each other, so that the story would reveal itself almost naturally. The pieces included the location, the model, the garments, the setting, the vibe, colors, and all the emotions and feelings that would be evoked from within.

As a fashion producer, I am so fortunate enough to be working with garments that are already beautiful. I noticed the colors, the patterns, some styles were very bold. Feminine, but bold. So I was thinking who would be suitable for this look.

The Main Character

I had an idea of who I was looking for that would fit the garments of the collection. I was thinking face.. Oceanic... Asiatic... not typical… a strong face, a strong opinionated look.

In steps Jessica into casting. I was quite surprised, she looked ideal of what I wanted to be. An Oceanic, Asiatic, beauty. She had charisma, something about her, a certain je ne sais quoi that makes her appealing. So I thought our summer set, bold colors would be perfect for her.

02 — Location

Summer Escapes

Finding a location to book can be one of the funnest aspects of a project. Especially in LA — where there is so much diversity in all the different neighborhoods.

For this Summer project, I needed water, I needed color, greenery, a lot of greenery, some lemon trees, palm trees, and even more colors to boost the visuals for the project and for the team. So I started my search on peerspace, gigster, and a couple word-of-mouth locations.

I visited this location where the owners were of Iranian descent, and had backgrounds in Architecture. They were such beautiful people, and likewise they had transformed their home into a beautiful, secret, get away oasis gem.

The gardening, antiques, drawings, patio, architecture, I could just imagine the model, Jessica, near the water with palm tree backdrops. UGH, just thinking about it now, this project gives me chicken skin (goosebumps, but I like saying chicken skin more).

03 — FIN

To compose it all together.

This project made me realize how fortunate I was to be working with an incredible team, beautiful garments, and freedom of creative expression. I feel like a conductor playing the orchestra. The orchestra being the team of creatives around me.

The clothes is also my style, and that made it that much more fun to work with.
